The main motivation behind starting The Colloquial Tongue is my anticipated relocation from the US to France, Strasbourg to be precise. After five long years of a long-distance love dance, Hanane and I are bridging the gap, and since she’s not keen on coming here to Seattle, I’m going there to her home town. Why am I doing that? Well love is the simple answer, and the right answer, but it is a lot more complicated than that, which is a story for later.
In any case, the date draws near, roughly two months away, and I am very excited and happy for the change; however, I am worrying about a lot of things, naturally, and probably my biggest worry at the moment (at least one I am willing to share right now) is what I will be doing for work once I get there. Yes, I will continue to explore the option to work independently, doing whatever I can as a designer, but since I will be diving head first into French life and needing to assimilate a lot during my first year (undoubtedly), it would be nice to find a stable job so at least I was not worrying about all the financial obligations I will be taking with me. Anybody have connections with a design firm in the Alsace region? If so, let me know.
