By virtue of The Colloquial Tongue, I bring to your attention and benefit the fuck page at answers.com. If you value the word fuck as much as I do (and don’t try and deny it) then you should find the fuck page at least mildy curious, a little funny, and perhaps even a lot enlightening.
Among other interesting revelations, I never knew what an expletive infixation was (even though I have been employing them practically my whole life) and the fuck page enlightened me.
Learning about this expression, “expletive infixation,” at this juncture is rather curious timing because Hanane and I finally finished watching the final episode of Sex in the City the other night (I know, I know), in which the character “Big” — played by Chris Noth, and for me the only character who made this whole series tolerable — uses the expletive infixation “abso-fucking-lutely“. This was a new expression for Hanane, being French and all, so I broke it down for her, but damn, I could have sounded all smart and shit had I known about the EF. (Written with tongue-in-cheek, in case you need the hint.)
Hey, don’t think this is just information for adolescents either, it’s not. You history buffs will be pleased to learn about the origins of the word fuck. Can you believe the first know written record of the word (in code because of it’s unacceptability at the time) was sometime before 1500? In England, of course.
Anyway, expletive infixations and many other of your favorite uses of the word fuck are warmly captured in the fuck page. Sharpen your skills and show them off to your boss.
