Wedding Day Announcement

Should have posted this sooner. (Sometimes the obvious info is the most elusive.)

Hanane and I have a wedding day planned for 27 November 2004. The wedding will take place at the Mairie de Strasbourg (Strasbourg City Hall) somewhere in the middle of the day. Hanane’s brother and one of her sisters will act as witnesses to the event, but I think there will be other members of her family in attendance as well. I don’t know all the details yet, it’s all happening pretty quickly, but here’s what I can share:

There will be a celebration sometime afterwards, a few days later maybe. It was going to be the same day, but Hanane’s momma has a minor surgery planned that we are working around so she can be in attendance. The celebration will be done Moroccan style, but will be somewhat small (about 100 people) as far as Moroccan wedding celebrations go (can be upwards of three hundred people). Moroccan wedding celebrations, as I understand it, are quite colorful. Hanane will undergo the henna treatment on her hands, feat, and maybe somewhere else, and she will have no less than four dress changes throughout the evening (all elaborate Moroccan fashion). The groom (moi) can have as many changes, but I’m restricting it to just two suits at key points in the evening. I’ll be the white knight at first, and the dark lord later on when I steal her away. That’s how I like to think of it anyway. I’m sure I’ll enjoy the dark lord bit more.

There will be live music (probably traditional), lots of food and dancing, and I think there will even be a point where Hanane and I (or at least Hanane) are carried out into the crowd on a throne-like thing (I don’t know what it’s called, but I’ll look into it and clarify later).

We will also be hiring a photographer to capture as much of this event as possible, so I will arrange for photos to be seen at some point. In fact, I’m looking into a photo gallery plugin for this Weblog so that I can share galleries of other images as well, such as my trips about Strasbourg and other European explorations when they happen. (It’s just a matter of finding the time, but you can keep bugging me about it.)

The last bit of detail I can give at this point is about the honeymoon, la lune de miel. We are still figuring this part out too, but two things seem fairly certain: we will be going somewhere tropical and sunny, and we will most likely have to wait until January or February before we can go. The destination that is first on our list is the Maldives. I have always wanted to go there, so I hope this is the one that works out, but no matter, I’ll be happy wherever we end up.

Edit note (27 Nov 2004): If you have read this post before, you may have noted a couple of short paragraphs right about here concerning voluntary contributions for the wedding, particularly the celebration (when it happens after the New Year). The situation has changed. Hanane and I are covering the costs ourselves, with no external help, family or otherwise. Hence, take this as the last and final word on the matter: no contributions please. This will be easier for everyone involved, keeps the playing field level, and keeps my self-respect in tact.) For those who inquired about contributing, your generous thoughts are not unappreciated, but there is no need. Merci!
